Fucked Up
Benazir Bhutto has been assassinated.

What's surprising to me is how surprised I am, considering a month or so back, when she was under house arrest, and then they lifted it, I was wondering how safe she would be and how long it would be before somebody tried to kill her.

I am not happy to be proven prescient.

(BTW, it always amazes me the number of countries that have had a woman in one of the highest positions in the land, like England or Pakistan or India or Israel, all of which have had female prime ministers, and Germany, which has had a female chancellor...and the US is still wetting itself over Nancy Pelosi becoming Speaker of the House and Hillary running for president. When male candidates or other political beasts say they wouldn't know how to deal with a woman as president, I have to question THEIR fitness for politics, because they'll have to deal with women in high positions OUTSIDE the US.)

I would have to agree. I was also shocked when I saw that headline pop up (although as you said, it wouldn't take a diviner to figure out this was coming down the pipe).

I wonder how things will shake out from here.

I fear they will become quite messy. India's not gonna be happy, the Pakistani people won't be happy, and Pervez's opposition has no major new candidates.

...they wouldn't know how to deal with a woman as president may be the best reason to consider voting for Hilary. I'm not a huge fan of hers, not because I've got a real problem with what she says, but because I have real doubts about whether or not she believes half of what she says.

The concept of having a bunch of Congress-peoples and Senators figuring they're on untested ground when dealing with the President is an attractive one, though.

And yes, the Bhutto assassination is, for lack of an original thought, totally fucked up...and will lead to bucket-loads of more fucked up.

I really really don't want Hillary. She's a false centrist, and a talking points politician. But that said, I am disgusted by the level of political critique the media aims at her...as a large portion of it is based solely on her being a woman.
