Hypochondria Alert! Hypochondria Alert!
First things first.
We went out to visit John's coworker, James, and his wife, Weng-Chen. Weng-Chen made us Real Chinese Food, ie. non-Americanised Chinese food, for dinner, which was awesome and delicious. She made five different dishes and they were all good. I felt appropriately stuffed after the meal.
Afterwards, we sat around and talked and played Little Big Planet. They've got a beta version of it, and man, it's almost worth getting a PS3 for. Cute as hell and awfully fun.
After a delightful evening, we took our leave and walked home. Sadly, on the way home, I started feeling a scratchy feeling at the back of my throat. A very familiar scratchy feeling, like a piece of corn was stuck back there.
When I got in, I took a look in the bathroom and that scratchy feeling? Well, there was one of those weird little white lumps at the back of my throat again.
I have had strep, officially, twice this year, and both times it was accompanied by those weird little white bumps. But right before moving, I had one of those white bumps AND NO OTHER SYMPTOMS other than a minor earache. I didn't have a fever. I didn't have a sore throat, just slight scratchiness where it felt like a piece of stuck food. No other swellings or difficulty swallowing. And now I have one of those white bumpy things again and no other signs of strep. I'm so confused. What do I have?
Anyway being the good little hypochondriac I am, I found a page talking about white spots. And it could be A) Strep B) Thrush C) Tonsilitis or D) Extra large tonsilloliths. (Tonsilloliths are mostly harmless accretions in the tonsil cavities that fall off in a week or so, although they are filled with bacteria. Gargling a lot with salt water and using a water pick are supposed to help them out.) Because of the lack of fever, I'm inclined to not go with strep this time. I just don't feel really streppy like I did the first two times this year. But I still do get the slightly-off earache, which inclines me towards tonsillitis. Also, I snore, which is apparently another sign of tonsillitis. But I have always snored. Hrm.
So, um. What to do? I am covered by John's insurance, no probs there, but I don't have a doctor yet. Obviously I'll have to find one, but in the meantime, I'm trying not to go crazy with the self-diagnosis...but it's already a little late.
Le sigh.
