Back from the U

Saw Lois Bujold read tonight. Got my other copy of Cordelia's Honor signed. I accidentally gave the signed copy to a friend earlier this year, thinking I was giving her the unsigned one. Realised too late. Hey, good thing Bujold comes to the U whenever a book comes out.

I think we should have just done away with Q and A time and let her read a few more scenes from Ivan. ("Ivan: His Book.") John was quite excited to hear the Ivan news, which is below the cut.

One scene:

Ivan in Solstice Dome, Komarr. Just settling down to sleep after being screwed over by galactic travel, diurnal tweakings to his circadian rhythms and so on. He hears a knock at the door. Who can it be at this hour?

Byerly Voruttyer is perched on Ivan's doorstep. He wants in. Ivan says no. By gets in anyway. (And this will continue throughout the rest of the scene.) Basically By wants Ivan to ingratiate himself with a woman who has grabbed the attentions of the smugglers he's been spying on and find out who she really is. He promises Ivan that she is attractive. Ivan's supply of no's eventually runs out. Much Byerly snark and innuendo as always.

I can't tell you how much happiness this fills me with! And yet... "Ivan: His Book"? Are you referring to the new "Miles" book called Cryoburn that's due out in November? Or is there another book coming that's all Ivan?

Either way I am STOKED.

Cryoburn is already out....
The new Miles book, Cryoburn, is already out. And you should quickly grab it because it comes bundled with almost every single other book in the series in electronic formats, except for Memory. (Which is my personal favourite.) There's a CD rom which will be available for just the first edition. (Although Bujold had a pile of them to hand around at the signing.)

I've already finished Cryoburn (and am bursting to talk to somebody about it) but there is only one tiny scene with Ivan in it. So Ivan: His Book is the NEXT in the queue. Bujold says she has 16 chapters on it, but has stalled and is hoping to get to it once she is done with tour.

Incidentally Bujold also says that she rarely works to contract--that she writes the books first and THEN sells them. Cryoburn is one of the few exceptions to this. She prefers it that way for artistic freedom.

So does it just come with a cd with the electronic versions or what? Holding hardcovers hurts so much these days I normally wouldn't even want to consider getting it, but if I can stick the /rest/ of them on my Kindle, it'd sure be worth it.

It comes with a CD that has almost all the books in the series in multiple e-book formats (and HTML, I think).

It's only missing Memory, I think. Full list is here: http://www.myspace.com/loismcmasterbujold/blog/539300980

It also only comes with the first edition.
